Got Press Coverage? Put it On Your Web Site!
By David Rodnitzky for FindLaw's Modern Practice, April 2003 Getting your firm's name in a newspaper or other media source is incredible publicity. A media mention establishes instant credibility (assuming the mention paints your firm in a positive light) and best of all, a media mention is free! After the article goes to press, however, you're work isn't done. Adding links to your Web site with impressive media mentions keeps those stories working in your firm's favor long after the actual newspapers have been turned into kindling for a fireplace. The following Web sites make good use of media mentions: Bendall and MednickThis small PI firm in New York has very clean and intuitive Web design. Toward the bottom of their left frame table of contents, they have a link to "media." When you click on this, you get a pop-up window that takes you to a series of impressive media articles listing the firm's accomplishments. Other than the pop-up window (I would rather see the link simply going to the next page), Bendall and Mednick do a great job of promoting their media mentions. In the center of the home page, the firm has devoted significant space to "media mentions," "upcoming speeches," "new firm publications," and much more. Then, when you click into media mentions, the Webmaster has summarized key articles with the relevant quotes. This means reduced clicking and an increased likelihood that people will read all of the quotes. The section is organized by case and subject - for example, "Smith v. Smith - E. Coli Outbreak" - which enables the user to browse by category, instead of by date. What's really impressive about this section, however, is that you can actually perform a search on the media mentions. This shows a true commitment to promoting their media mentions.
